The Hunter and the Dog

故事全文

Once upon a time, there was a dog who did not know how to hunt. He went hungry every day. The other animals in the forest thought that he was stupid, and no one wanted to be friends with him or to talk with him.

One day, the dog felt so hungry, he fainted in the woods. A passing hunter rescued the dog and took the dog home with him. At night, the hunter shared his dinner with the dog. The dog was very grateful for the delicious dinner. After dinner, the hunter asked, "Why did you faint in the woods?" The dog replied, "I do not know how to hunt, so I'm hungry all the time. This time, I did not have anything to eat for days. This is why I fainted in the woods." The dog felt sorry for himself and started to cry. The hunter patted the dog and said, "Do not feel sad. You can stay with me, and I can teach you how to hunt. You have a good nose and sharp ears. Therefore, you will surely learn fast." The dog decided to stay with the hunter and learn how to hunt.

Just as the hunter said, the dog was a fast learner, and he learned how to hunt in one month. One day, the hunter and the dog were hunting in the woods. Suddenly, the dog's nose told him that they were close to a big black bear. He quickly told the hunter about the dangerous bear, and both of them ran away to safety. After they got home, the hunter told the dog, "Your good nose and sharp ears saved my life. You have also learned how to hunt. I have nothing more to teach you. Do you wish to go back to the woods?" The dog replied, "Dear hunter, You have taught me so many things. You have been like a father to me. I would like to stay with you." From then on, the dog lived with the hunter, and protected his house.
